Tata to expand capacity for its super cheap car Nano

Tata Motors the car maker of the Rs 1 lakh Nano the cheapest car in India will be increasing its capacity to produce the model. There is a high demand than the expected in India and overseas car market but the company presently aims to meet the internal demands first and then meet overseas markets in the second pace.

The auto maker has planned to begin the production of its model by the last quarter of this year. Even the Mumbai-based company is seriously working on developing new variants of the 623-cc car, which was unveiled in January 2008. Tata’s Nano is aiming at first time car buyers in India as more than 45 million people believe on motorcycles for transportation.
Currently Maruti Suzuki is in the leading position of 51.4 % market share while Hyundai Motor Company has 18 % and Tata Motors have 13.9 percent in the year ended March 31. However the high volumes of the Nano range may drastically change Tata Motors market position in the country. It is also currently working on its fabulous-cheap car at its Singur plant and currently has the capacity to build around 250,000 units annually.
